Trans fats are created from hydrogenation, which is adding artificial carbons to the structure. Trans fats are known to increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. Here are just some of the foods that are high in trans fats: deep fried food, margarine, store bought cookies and cake, and microwave buttered popcorn. The “butter” flavor in several brands of popcorn is just oil with artificial flavoring — and partially hydrogenated oil at that.
